Our Story
What seems like a lifetime ago, I took a leap and accepted a job in Japan that I knew very little about. How I came to that job is it’s own winding, beautiful story, but what I did know was that it was going to get me to Asia. I was launching myself into the universe, and a lifetime of adventures was going to be unlocked by that one decision. My curiosity led me to Bali, Indonesia and the rest they say is history. I embraced that magical archipelago, and met like-minded, incredible souls along the way. I was hooked on travel and life was officially on another roadmap.
I started Gado-Gado so I could bring some of that magic back to my hometown of Ellicottville, NY. Gado-Gado began designing and importing everything from incense to teakwood furniture. I was now a single mom and I wanted everyone to have access to unique finds that spoke to their creative, individual styles without having to sacrifice. It was important to me to be able to offer them an uplifting experience in an aesthetically appealing space. An environment that was inclusive, upbeat, supportive, and a good vibe. These are still the goals today, more than 20 years later.
Gado-Gado has been fortunate to work with fun-loving, amazing, and supportive individuals that have become and are family. This culture is one of the qualities that makes walking in the door so special. It would be impossible without these stellar folks.
Business has evolved as life has taken various turns. We now offer women’s clothing, accessories, and a smattering of gifts that catch our eye and we think will enrich your life in some way. We purchase through small businesses and fair trade as often as possible. It’s important to us to support our local community, and greet everyone with open arms. We have room at our table for all of you.
There have been many hills and valleys along the way that now form a patchwork of experiences. This individual template inspires and influences me today. I now have a beautiful family that I am deeply grateful for. My business is a place that brings people together and provides opportunities for new growth. I embrace change, especially if it brings adventure and a slice of nomadic life. I travel at every opportunity and getting off the beaten path makes my heart sing.
Our customers are as globally diverse as the unique merchandise that we curate for them. We take pleasure in creating a positive vibe for the upbeat, fearless, and global woman seeking individual style.
Much love and peace,
